Testimonials

“The most awesome place to retire is at State Manufactured Homes, Inc. and Hillcrest Retirement Community located in beautiful Scarborough, Maine!

We are two extremely “Happy” senior citizens, who have been fortunate to have been blessed, living in this wonderful family-owned community.  We have lived here two years.

We’ve lived all over the world, being military employed – This retirement community is the very best place to live by far – The owners go the extra miles to accommodate all and are always available to help and comfort any in need.

There is so much to do here, as well, “Thanks” to our well-planned monthly activity newsletter schedule – folks here always have smiles on their faces, with friendly waves to all – so bottom line – contact Tina or Tracy today – it will be one of the very best decisions one could make.  Life is so great here!!

Two very happy Seniors!”

“It was in 1981 that Roland and I decided to make Maine our adopted state. Camping with our young children in the summers convinced us that this was where we wanted to spend our summer vacations, and some day retire.  We found a small cottage in western Maine overlooking the White Mountains, Mount Washington, and Kezar Lake.

We spent years bringing our cottage up to date and building an addition. Our dream was to retire to this lovely home that held beautiful memories for us. We developed perennial and vegetable gardens and our retirement was everything we had hoped for.

Soon, though, we needed to move to a new phase in our lives. We knew that our next move would have to be to a very special home in a very special community in order for this move to meet our needs. I began a search of retirement communities in Maine. That is how I found State Manufactured Homes in Scarborough, Maine. I sent a query to the office asking for information. Within 24 hours Tracy got back to me. We set up an e-mail conversation, and  we made a date to visit and see some models.

From the moment we met the staff at State Manufactured Homes, we knew that we were with people who understood that a move like ours was not an easy process. They seemed to intuit that a change of lifestyle in later years comes with tender consideration; that the decision is one that needs pondering, planning, and a certain amount of letting go.

We looked at several models over a period of several weeks. State Manufactured Homes knew that we couldn’t make instant decisions, and that we were uncertain of our time-line. Tracy stayed in contact with us and brought us up to date with information on new models for us to see. One weekend in September 2014, they invited us to an Open House Weekend. When we walked into this model, we knew we were home.

We moved in the middle of November. We had complete support from State Manufactured Homes in assuring our home was ready to receive permanent residents. Staff was on hand, available, and only a phone call away should we run into any problems. We were welcomed into the community in ways that assured us we truly were now a part of HIllcrest Retirement Community.

Roland and I love to poke around Scarborough, Portland, York, and surrounds. We love visiting the ocean in all seasons – and fortunately we have beaches only minutes away from our home. We love finding new restaurants in the greater Portland area. We also love joining with our neighbors while someone else does the driving to visit museums, restaurants, shopping, and shows.  There are opportunities to share meals with our neighbors and share in serving meals to Preble Street Soup Kitchen.

We could not have predicted  leaving our home in Western Maine. Nor could we predict what a blessing this move to Hillcrest Retirement Community has been in our lives. Visit and see for yourself.”

“For a number of years my wife and I would drive through the Hillcrest Retirement Community in Scarborough, Maine, just out of curiosity. With each passing year we noted the ever improving landscape of the property and the many beautiful new styles of manufactured homes being erected on the property.

With the passage of time those drives went from curiosity to serious consideration of becoming residents in this community.  In April of 2015 we committed to purchasing a beautiful new manufactured home. We worked with Hillcrest management who provided us with assistance in selecting the home that best suited our likes and needs. That whole experience was enjoyable and exciting.   We found the Desfosses and Smith families went to great lengths to tend to our every need and concern. In September of 2015 we moved into our new home. It was the right move for us at this time in our lives.

We are very happy in our new home with no regrets. We are surrounded by a great group of caring neighbors. With the quiet of country living and the ease of access to shopping areas and highways to any destination in southern Maine and beyond.

This community continues to evolve with it’s latest phase of beautiful homes. If you are looking for that special place to live in solitude with a beautiful setting, you owe it to yourselves to check out Hillcrest  Community in Scarborough, Maine. Visit their office and ask for Theresa, Tina or Tracy. Let them show you the property and their plans for the future.  You will be impressed as we were.”

“I just wanted to let you know how happy I am in my new home!  The community is terrific:  quiet, pretty and friendly.  The streets are wide and, with barely any traffic, wonderful for long dog walks.  My house is the epitome of easy living.  Any reservations I might have had about a manufactured home are long gone!  It is warm, cozy and in perfect condition.  I love it and have never been happier.  Thanks for all you do to keep the community as lovely as it is.  I expect I will be here a very long time.”

“Spring is in the air and I thought I would let you know that I continue to be very comfortable with the operation of the Hillcrest community and especially with the quality of my home on Sophia Avenue.  The construction of the home is very well done and your crew did an excellent job with my patio and garage.  It also is very meaningful and pleasant to have such a competent and friendly staff.  Your annual Lobster Fest is a bonus.”

“Pinecrest Community has been our home for the past 4 years. We planned to downsize as we got closer to retirement age, and getting our 1996 Burlington Mobile Home in this park was the perfect answer for us.

The Community is very well managed, quiet, and accessible to many activities of the Greater Portland area. Many events at Hillcrest Community are available to us. We have used the Community center for treadmill exercises, but there is a lot more left for us to enjoy, like the library, the cookout scheduled for August, and the harvest of our vegetables growing in the Community garden.

Theresa and Tina and their staff have been very responsive to the community members and have been ready to answer any questions or concerns. So if you are looking for a home with good neighbors, planned activities, and a well cared for community, try Hillcrest or Pinecrest. We love it here!”

“I have lived at Hillcrest Retirement Community for 2 1/2 years and I found it to be a wonderful, supportive, and friendly community in the truest sense of the word! The staff and my neighbors provide a safe and welcoming atmosphere, while offering many amenities. It has been a valuable and enjoyable experience for me to live here.”

“One of the finer points of living at Pinecrest or Hillcrest Communities is that they are locally owned and not an out-of-state corporation. The communities are kept neat and the closeness of homes and having nice neighbors gives you a sense of security. The communities are very quiet and there is a community center with daily activities. The owners take an active role with the concerns of others and there is a monthly newsletter about new residents arriving, monthly activities and other community information. These manufactured homes are constructed well and are quite economical.”

“Hillcrest Retirement Community offers new, affordable, quality, single homes in a very strategic location for all retirement minded people who want to “downsize” such as I. The owners of the community give great attention to home owner’s concerns and matters are attended to in a timely manner. Plenty of things to do socially if you are inclined. A step above condominiums.”
